The Beatles

The Beatles land in New Zealand

Beatlemania hit New Zealand when 7000 hysterical fans greeted the Fab Four in Wellington during their ‘Far East’ tour. After concerts in the United States, Europe, Hong Kong and Australia, the lads from Liverpool touched down in New Zealand.

The Beatles’ fame preceded them and our teenagers were ready for action. In Wellington, police struggled to keep crowds behind a wire fence at the airport and rapturous fans besieged the Beatles’ hotel.

On 22 June the Beatles played their first New Zealand concerts, repeating a 30-minute 11-song set as fans screamed and punctured the seats of the Wellington Town Hall with their stiletto heels. Audiences in Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin followed suit. Perhaps the most dangerous moment of the tour occurred in Auckland, where several thousand people swarmed around the band and John Lennon lost a clump of hair.

The tour had a huge impact on New Zealand’s rock ’n’ roll and pop music scene. Local artists such as Ray Columbus, Howard Morrison and Max Merritt and the Meteors benefited from a surge of interest in the Beatles’ wake.

The last post

Video result for ANZAC day song

In military tradition, the Last Post is the bugle call that signifies the end of the day's activities. It is also sounded at military funerals to indicate that the soldier has gone to his final rest and at commemorative services such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.

Parihaka ( 1989 )

Tim Finn & the Herbs - Parihaka (1989)

The non-violent action preached and practiced by Māori prophets Te Whiti and Tohu at Parihaka in Taranaki forms one of the most compelling episodes of New Zealand’s 19th century history, as they resisted Pākehā confiscation of their land and home. Tim Finn was inspired to write this paean to the pair after reading Dick Scott’s influential book Ask That Mountain. Band Herbs provide the accompaniment.

Science

Aim: To observe neutralisation reaction.

Equipment:
6 test tubes, test tube rack, 1 base, 1 acid ( making sure it has around the same PH level on opposite sides), dropper bottle, Universal Indicator.

Method:

  1. Get all of your equipment.
  2. Fill 4 test tubes with 3ml of acid.
  3. FIll the other 2 with 3ml of the base.
  4. Add a squirt of universal indicator to each test tube.
  5. Add different amounts of acids and bases to make the colors of the rainbow. (ROYGBIV)

Result.

Discussion: This means that it was changing to a neutral ph level. Tho it is turning green, when t is green that doesn't mean that it would be drinkable. Neutralisation is when a chemical reaction occurs while mixing together a base and an acid.If you neutralize acid but don't add enough base it will go around the orange-yellow color when the universal indicator is added, this would be in the 2-6 area in the pH level. If you neutralize a base but don't add enough acid it would go blue or violet when the universal indicator is added, this is about an 8-12 on the pH scale. What is in an acid that makes it an acid you may ask, an acid is an acid because it has an atom called Hydrogen (H+), every acid has this atom in the acid. What makes a base a base then, a base has something called Hydroxide(OH-) in it instead.

Sprinting  then jogging sometimes up hills sometimes down slope. She run at the inter-school last year and it was running that she was best at. On the day of Athletic day Keri sat down and started stretching  before the event. The first two heats were a bit of a joke most of them didn't even try to win. Some even walked. When it was Keri's turn ,Nick watched nervously. Keri got second  and after eating lunch Keri looked depressed because she was probably not used to being not the winner. When the event started again,  Nick  was cheering up wanting her to win. This time Keri  won.  and something strange happened when the girl who won second and Keri gave each other a hug . They wre laughing  as if they were the best of friends.
